What do we take in as we enter a room? To what extent does the construction method influence the acoustics of a given space? As opposed to our other senses, our sense of hearing is permanently activated and floods us with information. Consciously taking in the sounds of our environment, listening to them and interpreting them as a language is the basis of Sam Auinger’s artistic work. His work often amounts to an intervention in the sound identity of architecturally designed spaces and contributes to a new perspective on our environment for our sense of hearing.
